Hope and Grace Wines

Buy Online

Rating: C-D
Feb 13th, 2009
6540 Washington Street, Yountville, California

Refered by the staff at James Cole Estate who share the same winemaker as Hope and Grace. The name comes from the two daughters of the owner and winemaker Charles Hendricks. The logo is modeled on a haunting picture hanging in the tasting room that looks like a candle from afar. The tasting room is in downtown Yountville near Bouchon, they recently moved closer to the main street and getting more traffic as a result. The staff were extremely pleasant and happy to pour us all of their wines with no mention of tasting fees or measured pours. We were also treated to a selection of Godiva chocolates. I would highly recommend them to others, a pleasant end to the day.

2004 Hendricks Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon ($125)Rating: C-D
Feb 13th, 2009
Spectacular - easily wine of the day, but pricey. Fills the mouth with dark berry fruits and a very smooth lingering finish.
2005 Napa Valley Carmenere ($40)Rating: B-C
Feb 13th, 2009
Cleansing (after the Hendricks reserve), but still smoother and approachable unlike other Carmenere's. Drinkable, but still sweeter than I would like in a red. I still prefer this blended than as a straight varietal.
2005 Napa Valley Malbec ($60)Rating: B-C
Feb 13th, 2009
Nice and smooth with bold fruit. A lot more drinkable as a young Malbec compared with South America or Europe.
2005 Russian River Pinot Noir ($45)Rating: B-C
Feb 13th, 2009
From Dutton Ranch with more sweetness than the sleepy hollow. Wayne got "Dubliner Cheddar"
2006 Russian River Pinot Noir ($45)Rating: B-C
Feb 13th, 2009
Less fruit than the 05, but still a solid drinker.
2006 Sleepy Hollow Vineyard Pinot Noir ($40)Rating: B
Feb 13th, 2009
"Bacon", a slightly meaty nose, but still lots of fruit and balance with oaky fruit.
