Established in 1993, Rutherford Grove is a small family owned winery. The tasting room would cater to a medium sized crowd and the staff are friendly. This is a great place for a picnic as they bocce ball courts, tables and a nice grassy area where you can sit back in the sun and enjoy a bottle of one of their excellent wines. We were impressed by their Wine Club, as you can select the types of bottles you want, the number of bottles you want and also when you want them shipped. It is surprising to see a Wine Club with such flexibility. We were disappointed with the size of the measured pours though.

2004 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon ($65)Rating: C
Feb 3rd, 2007
Excellent. Best wine of the winery. First year producing a wine from Howell Mountain, which we believe produces some of the best wines in Napa. This is another fine example of a quality Howell Mountain wine. Deep in color, fills your mouth with flavors of concentrated fruit. Long tannins. This wine needs to sit down for a few years and will get better. We were surprised to be drinking a 2004. Club Members get this at $52 which is good value
2002 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ($40)Rating: B-C

Ahhh, now we are getting better. Good fruit. Chewy. Nice finish. A good Cabernet
2005 Pestoni Estate Sauvignon Blanc ($16)Rating: B-C
Feb 3rd, 2007
Excellent. This is a very refreshing wine and totally caught us by surprise. Flavors of citrus - "Grapefruit and orange". Very clean. Would be great to grab a bottle on a sunny day and go outside and sit on the manicured lawn. Excellent value (Wine Club members get it for $11.50)
2002 Napa Valley Red ($18)Rating: B
Feb 3rd, 2007
Fruity with no finish. Flat. 75% Cab, 25% Merlot. "Starts Cab, finished Merlot"
2003 Napa Valley Merlot ($28)Rating: B
Feb 3rd, 2007
Seemingly we were the first people to taste the 2003 Merlot in the tasting room. Not sure how much truth is behind that, but it did seem early to taste it which we thought was a bit strange for a Merlot. Big tannins. Not sure how much better it will get
2004 Rutherford Bench Sangiovese ($30)Rating: B

Would not drink too much of the Sangiovese. "Puckery" finish. Very dry
