Marston Family Vineyards is a hidden treasure on Spring Mountain in Napa. We took a bus up to the winery and ended up having to get our group shuttled in 3 cars from the winery entrance up to the tasting room - the road was too narrow for the bus to make it. The service was incredible as Elizabeth, Jamie and a friend drove us all the last mile. Our poor bus driver was not very pleased trying to negotiate the road (and having to turn around). The tasting room is in a renovated barn where we were greeted with plates of cheeses and meats. We then proceeded to try the 2006 Cabernet followed by the 2004 and the 2003. Marston produce about 500 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon every year and the wines are stunning. They are expensive but very good. The service, the people, the location and the wines make this a special winery and experience. We will definitely be going back. Highly recommended.

2003 Cabernet Sauvignon ($125)Rating: D

April 11th 2010 - Beautiful wine and one of the better Cabernets I have tried in a while. Fantastic nose, mouth filling fruit, long finish. A very well structured wine drinking very well at the moment. Expensive at $125.... Feb 9th 2007 - Strong fruit smells - one of the better 2003s of the night. Nice round flavor with smooth finish. Very drinkable, but not a great value at this price ($90)
2004 Cabernet Sauvignon ($125)Rating: C-D

      Best Wine - April, 2010

Another classic hillside Cabernet packed with flavors of fruit and long, smooth finish. A really beautiful wine. My only complaint is the $125 price tag on the wine. Personally I thought the 2003 was drinking better but a lot of the group preferred the 2004. You cannot go wrong with either...
2006 Cabernet Sauvignon ($100)Rating: C

The 2006 Marston Cabernet Sauvignon has won a lot of accolades. Wine News Magazine rated it the top California wine of 2009 (98 points) and Robert Parker gave it 92-95 points. I have no doubt it will be exceptional in a few years but right now I cannot rate it as highly as the stunning 2003 or 2004. It is a big, intense wine with big tannins. Definitely want to try this again in a few years.
1999 Cabernet Sauvignon ($90)Rating: B

Less fruit with same tannins as 2003 but not as mouth pleasing and not worth $90
