22 wineries over a two-day period in Glen Ellen and Kenwood
Hearts of Sonoma Valley 21st Annual Holiday Open House
November 25/26, 2005
Tickets: $20 for two days, and a portion of the proceeds benefit local charities. Souvenir glass included.

Shane and I visited 22 wineries over a two-day period in Glen Ellen and Kenwood. This may seem to be a lot of driving, but all of the wineries are very close to one another, if not next door! As well as being our anniversary, this was a holiday event featuring award-winning wines, a chance to meet the winemakers, enjoy fresh baked nibbles and sweets, and pick up holiday gifts for your friends & family. The only complaint we had was that due to the event itself, many of the wineries were only tasting a limited selection of their wines. We stayed at the MacArthur Place which held a wine and cheese reception each evening, had a lovely pool & hot tub as well as a full service spa. We dined at The Girl & the Fig on the Square in downtown Sonoma, and highly recommend it.

Recommended Wines/Wineries

Chateau St. Jean was a nice winery with regular tasting in one room and the reserve tasting in another. After not being overly impressed by the regular selection, we went to the reserve area. The 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Cinq Cépages was stunning (see rating on rating page).

Navillus Birney Ranch was a small winery with a very nice Pinot – Sonoma Coast.

Valley of the Moon & Benziger also had some nice wines, the latter having some very good Reserves (see rating page).
